When you join storage unit auctions, it’s not only about your knowledge. It’s also about how you look and what you need to bring.
If you’re a first time and ready to set out and experience your first auction, then you better be aware of the checklist below. Here are some of the things you need to bring to a storage unit auction:
1. Dress in simple clothes.
Going beyond bringing, it’s also important to know what you’re going to wear in an auction. Forget about flashy clothes. If you end up going there looking all dressed up, people will make fun of you. They’ll think you’re rich and will just play you off with bidding. Try to dress as simple and as casual as you can.
2. Bring a flashlight.
Having a flashlight allows you to get a better glimpse of what else lies beneath and around the corners of the unit. Once it’s opened for everyone to see for a while, there are other spaces that aren’t easily visible. So never forget to bring one.
3. Have cash with you.
Most of the time, you need to pay for the unit you bought with cash right then and there. If you fail to bring some, you won’t be able to bid. If you make them wait while you run to the nearest ATM, they won’t— and you’ll miss out.
4. Wear a pair of gloves.
Once you’ve purchased your unit, make sure you have protective workingman’s gloves on. You don’t want to end up injuring yourself going through all the items inside the unit.
5. Drive a truck.
Whether that’s a big wheeler or a pick up truck, make sure the vehicle you’re driving can bring the heavy items you find in the unit.
So make this your checklist just before you head out and bid. The last thing you want is losing an edge against your competitors.
